Family Room Ideas

So here is my ideas for the Family room. Earlier I had mentioned I wanted to make it a Football Room. We are huge Carolina Panther's football fans.

So we were thinking of doing this:

Remember the model home that I visited awhile back

We just love this. We have a couch almost identical. And we have so many personal photos of when we have gone to the games and training camp to make a photo collage behind the couch.

We love the Panther's but we aren't planning on doing all Panther's colors in the room. Instead our color palette is going to be a light teal blue color, chocolate brown, white, and black.

Here is a sneak peek of the painting we have been doing to the game room.

Now we are on the search for the perfect rug. It has to be at least 8x10 because the room is so big. Here is the rug I found on overstock. I love it, but it's still a bit pricey for me.

What do y'all think? It's not hubby approved yet either.

We are also on the search for an audio pier or something to hold all of our electronic equipment. Adam is also waiting to by a TV to hang on the wall. The one he is looking at is by Vizio and will not be available until sometime in September.

Things will soon come together, but we have to get it all done by football season. At least this is our goal.

Procrastination

Since moving in I haven't posted any pics of the house. Why you may ask? Because nothing is decorated yet. Nothing is picture worthy yet. I have a few reasons for not decorating yet.

1. The bank account is EMPTY! (Ha ha, isn't it always!!)
2. I haven't come up with the perfect design plan.

Usually we are pros at moving and getting the house to feel like it's home in record time. After all Adam was in the Air Force for 12 years and of those 12 years we moved 7 times. But this house is different. This house we plan on be here for a very, very long time, if not forever. So now I am scared of hanging anything on the walls. I want everything to be perfect and thought through.

So this is my story and I am sticking with it.

Promise, once we get the Tv's up on the walls in the next couple of weeks I will post pics. Right now things don't seem at all put together with the Tv's sitting on the coffee tables in the corner.

Warning...

Whatever you do, don't get scammed by home solicitors selling water softeners. We GOT SCAMMED. Adam got a gift card in the mail for $50 to Lowe's. What new home owner would pass up a $50 gift card? Anyway he called about it and they came out to just "talk" about the water treatment unit. Of course they use all of the scare tactics possible making you think that the water you are drinking is horrible and bad for you and how on earth have we been drinking this water in the past. They promise us that this new unit will produce spot-free dishes and water fixtures, save us on damage to our appliances and pipes, and we will use less cleaning products and shampoos. They also told us that I wouldn't ever have to buy moisturizers again and that I could shave my legs without shaving gel. This is all bologna!!! After a couple of days my skin and hair was so dry and my eczema came back. Maybe this is just a coincidence? I do have to say I did have clean dishes though! When we claimed we weren't satisfied with the unit, they refused to take it out of our home because we have gone past our three days. How can we determine in three days if it is working or not? They told us it would take a few days to work correctly in the first place. I am too embarrassed to even mention how much this thing cost. I am certain we probably paid double if not triple for this unit. I just can't believe if a customer isn't satisfied with a product that they won't do anything about it. And especially if the unit isn't doing what they say it would do.

The lesson to learn here is:
If it sounds like it's too good to be true, then it probably is!!!
Also, Adam learned what greed can do! I would have rather just given him $50 to shop at Lowe's!!!

Oh and if you live in the Florida area, do not purchase from WATER EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGIES OF FLORIDA, INC.

Definition of Highfillucky

I have decided to update my blog and with that I changed the name to Highfillucky. Just wanted to let everyone know what Highfillucky means. Highfill is our last name. And Lucky came from me liking to play poker a lot and I always felt just lucky (not like I was any good!) So when you put the two together, HIGHFILLUCKY, it sounds like you are saying, "I FEEL LUCKY." I think it's cute, personally!

Any hoo! My goal is to update this blog more, become more creative with it, and gain more followers. So here we go. More updates to follow.

Officially Home Owners!!!

We are now officially proud new home owners. We closed on our house this past Monday. The past several days have been a blur with moving. Darn, I hate moving. It has kicked our booties. Things are going great and I will update with pictures once things calm down a bit.

Also, I just wanted to share a new revelation that I discovered. The past couple of years have been really tough on us as a family. Things that I don't neccessarily want to go into here, but times have been hard. In those hard times, I have gotten closer to God and have been able to rejoice in Him. The first night in our new house, I realized this house is His blessing and two-fold. I mean two-fold by sometimes God gives back double when you struggle so hard and instead of straying you turn towards Him. This is His gift, He gave it to us!! Thank you dear Lord!!!

Lez is away visiting her Dad!!!

My name is Adam, Leslie's hubby. I am here getting ready to move. We had our final walkthrough today. The house looks great a few more things need fine tuning but they will be getting fixed asap. I am posting some pics for Lez and kids to see. Also, I just want to say how lucky I am to have a wife like Leslie. Words can not express how she makes me feel. She has given me two beautiful kids and a wonderful home. I am eternally thankful.

Here are some updated pics of the house.

Wallpaper? Is it back?

Is wallpaper making a comeback? Maybe it never left? I just remember the hideous wallpaper from back in the day that I promised myself I would never get. But once I saw this wallpaper, I fell in love. Isn't the metallic look hott!!!?? I would love to add it to a small room in our new house. Maybe a bathroom. Don't want to commit to anything too big. It would be nice to add some texture to a room. But I don't know the first thing about hanging wallpaper. I may be too chicken to do it. We'll see.

Packing Up!

For the past several days I have been packing everything up and moving it out to the garage. Everything is off the walls, curtains down, cabinets packed, and closets cleaned out (except for our closet, and it's dreadful!) Lots of work, but it has to be done since we are moving ourselves. We have always been spoiled because the military always moved us. So anyway everything is almost done because the kids and I are leaving for North Carolina in the morning. We are going to visit my dad for Father's Day. We come back on Sunday and then Monday is CLOSING DAY! Can't wait.

Sorry, I have been MIA. Life has been quite busy in the Highfill household. I am now officially a licensed Esthetician. Yay me.!! I finished up my schooling last week. I start my new job at the end of this month. The kids are out of school for the summer. Christian graduated 5th grade and Chloe graduated Kindergarten.

Currently I don't have photos uploaded to the computer of Chloe at her graduation.
As for the house. We have our official closing date. JUNE 22!!!!!!!! Time is flying for us. Here are some updated pics of the house. We have landscaping now!

Model Homes...Round Three

Here is the last of my recent model home pictures.
Warning: These pictures aren't great due to my iphone taking them. Sorry!

I love the mirrors behind the console. They sort of look like window panels.

I love the round wall decor. I believe I have seen them at Pier 1.

Everywhere I look I see these apothecary jars. I MUST have these!!!

Isn't this a cute idea? These beveled mirrors are so cute.

A simple way to decorate the dining room table.

I AM IN LOVE WITH...

Mirrored Furniture! I have talked Adam into letting me have at least one mirrored nightstand in our bedroom someday in the future. Eventually we plan on getting a King size bed for our bedroom. And once we do that we are going to switch things up a bit in our room. We are now learning we shouldn't have everything so matchy matchy in the room, so I am going to get different pieces and hope to tie them all together. I am in love with this nightstand.

-Detail CRV
-Make eye doctor appointment

Shrimp Festival 2009

Not sure what the Shrimp Festival is, but once a year Fernandina Beach, Fl has a festival. I think it's just an excuse to party and have a good time. After all of the year of my mom living in Fernandina this was our first year ever going. We had a good time just walking the streets and eating. There was tons of different food booths with shrimp and lots of pirates walking the streets handing out beads. Here's a couple of pics of our fun times.

WTH?

Yesterday this commercial was all over CNN. Watch and see what you think! And of all places this place is from where I am from. Is this commercial for real or making a joke. I think it's real.

Happy Birthday To Chloe

Chloe turned 6 last weekend. I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast. She enjoyed a day of beauty at Sweet and Sassy's. She got her hair cut and styled and a mani and pedi. She came back looking so cute and diva-ish. She had her nails bright pink with flowers painted on them andher hair smelled of cotton candy and glitter sprayed throughout it. Later that evening we went to dinner at Homestead (her favorite fried chicken.) The band sang Happy Birthday to her twice, so she was thrilled.

Our house is becoming a house! We went by the new house on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by all of the new updates. We still haven't gotten an actual date of closing. We are waiting to hear back from the builder today. Keeping the fingers crossed, but it should be ready mid-June. Can't wait.

We have paint! They painted the exterior, but forgot the garage doors. We have the choice to paint or not to paint the doors. The white doors seem to draw the eye straight to the garage and taking away from the house, therefore I prefer the doors painted.

Look!!! They painted the inside too. And they put up the stairway treads. I can't wait to see the color of the stain. I don't know the name of it, but I do know it's dark. Actually, I think it is called espresso.

In the dining room they put up the chair railing. Pretty!

Fireplace and built-in bookshelves. Well worth the money for this addition!

They put in the countertops in all of the bathrooms.

Our huge 3rd car garage.

We got our granite counter tops and crown molding on cabinets. The pics of the counter tops didn't come out too good due to the plastic on tops of them. More will come soon.

Photos of upstairs.

My Love of Models

Here is more pics that I promised of the model homes that I visited.

I love the wall art. I think it would look great indoors or outdoors.

I probably would never do this, but I thought it was interesting how they played off of not having a headboard.

My dream is to have a closet organized like this. Eventually, I WILL have this. Adam just doesn't know yet!!!

Here is another interesting way to enhance a bed without a headboard. I would love to have something like this in a guest bedroom.

This is such a great idea. A FOOTBALL ROOM!!!! We have decided to duplicate this look for our bonus room upstairs. We are HUGE Carolina PANTHER fans, so what better way to show our love!!! I want to do this, however I don't necessarily want to use the colors of the Panther's since it doesn't go with the flow of the rest of the house. We are still contemplating the Fat Head sticker of the football helmet. I don't know if we have a wall for it. But I definetly want to do this:

We have so many photos of our own that we have taken at the football games and training camp. So now we can use them to show off our love for Steve Smith and the Panthers. People here in Jaguar Territory are going to despise our room!

I still have more model home pictures to share. Just don't want to overwhelm you. Stay tuned!!!

I Got A J-O-B

I am so excited, I got a job!!!! To graduate, my school requires us to interview 5 salons and see how they run things. Plus it is supposed to help get our face out there and hopefully get a foot in the door. I interviewed a salon today and to my surprise they were actually in need of an esthetician. It's a really nice, cute salon/spa that has lots of character. The salon offers hair, skin care, makeup, and massage. As the owner says, "It's a one stop shop!"They are also an Aveda Concept which is pretty cool. It's in a great location which is a huge plus. I won't actually be able to start working until I get my license which will be in June.
School is going great as well. I am in my 5th week now. So far I have already learned facials, Glycolic peels, microdermabrasion, and waxing. However, I have got to schooled on the Brazilian. My school doesn't teach it, and the salon offers it. I am scared!!!! I don't want a va-jay-jay in my face!!LOL!!!! I am sure I will get over it and get used to it.
Microdermabrasion seems to be the big money maker. Everyone is coming in to get them. I probably do at least 10 a week while I am there part-time. A salon can offer a micro at a rate of $100-$175!! Cha-ching. And I know how to do them. For anyone who doesn't know what a micro is: It's basically a deep exfoliation sloughing off the top layer of the skin. It also helps with hyperpigmentation, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing out the skin, and blood circulation. It's great!!!

My New Hobby

MODEL HOMES I have recently discovered my love for walking through Model Homes. They give such great inspiration for decorating ideas. Here are some of my faves.

A girlfriend and I went to this model home and all we could say was, "WOW!" What we thought was the front door of the house opened up to this! A pool in the court yard. How cool is that! I love this pool! I love the shape of it and colors of the pavers. The patio also has multi-levels including the fireplace on the upper level. So cool! This would be awesome in our backyard!!!!

Not the greatest picture, but look at THAT Mirror!! It has a friggen TV in the mirror. OMG! How do they do that? It is a bit extravagant for my taste, but way cool.

I love this look for the bedroom. For some reason I am really big into animal print right now. I love the chair and the dark finish on the dresser. Oh and the lamp is gorgeous!

Not a huge fan of this dining room, but I am in love with the mirror. Anyone know where I can find it?

I love the fact that this counter is decorated and not loaded with appliances (i.e. blenders, toaster and such.) I wish the photo captured the full effect of those counter tops. They were gorgeous. They actually glittered in the light. I think these granite counter tops were called Galaxy.

If my daughter was a teenager I would for sure decorate her room like this. Love the hot pink and black palette and mirror dresser. I want that dresser. Hope Adam is reading this!!!

Ok enough photos of model homes. More to come!! Don't want to overload you with my new hobby!!!
